Why Quartz Is Ideal for Kitchen Use

Quartz countertops aren't stone, although most contain over 90 percent ground quartz by weight. Also known as engineered quartz, this countertop material offers an incredibly durable and nonporous surface that can look just like natural stone. The popularity of quartz has skyrocketed in recent years thanks to growing consumer awareness and a greater variety of styles and colors. With its hard surface and striking appearance, quartz can work well almost anywhere, but it's most often used in the kitchen. Here's what makes quartz a good choice when replacing your kitchen counters.

Quartz Is Very Resistant to Damage

Quartz countertops are manufactured, not quarried. The manufacturing process produces an incredibly hard and durable surface that even exceeds granite in terms of strength and performance. Quartz is forgiving and isn't likely to crack or chip as easily as natural stone. However,it isn't completely immune to harm. The greatest risk to quartz in the kitchen is heat. Quartz counters are usually rated up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, but sudden or sustained heat, such as from a hot pan set directly on the surface, could cause cracks or discoloration of the resin.

Quartz Doesn't Need to Be Sealed

Quartz may look like stone, but it's made with polymer resin that makes it completely nonporous. Because quartz doesn’t have tiny pores that can absorb liquids, quartz countertops never need to be sealed. To maintain quartz countertops, all you need to use is a combination quartz cleaner and polish like Granite Gold Quartz Brite® to maintain the vibrant color and prevent discoloration.

Quartz Is Ultra Stain Resistant

No matter how careful you are, spills are bound to happen while prepping food and cooking. All it takes is an unnoticed splatter from the stovetop to potentially leave noticeable stains on marble, granite, or travertine. Thanks to its nonporous nature, quartz offers excellent protection against stains, provided it’s cared for properly.

Quartz Offers Limitless Design Options

Most quartz countertops are designed to look just like natural stone, including timeless Carrara or Calacatta marble, Ubatuba granite, New Venetian Gold granite, or Caledonia granite. This versatility makes it easy to give your kitchen the appeal of natural stone with less maintenance. Quartz can also be manufactured with pigments and other additives to produce completely unique countertops with vibrant colors like candy apple red and lime green to get the kitchen of your dreams with a long-lasting premium material.
